
A joint is formed by two or more bones. There are many joints in our bodies; some are major joints others are minor (small) joints.
Dislocation is the total loss of contact between bones at a joint.
Some of the joints that are mostly dislocated includes; hip, knee, ankle, elbow, shoulder among others.
Certain dislocations happen with associated fractures.
Causes/Risk Factors for Dislocation.
– Sport activities
– Accidents for example road traffic accident.
– suddenly moving the joint may also cause certain dislocations.
Signs and Symptoms of Dislocations.
– Severe pain at the affected joint.
– Swelling of the affected joint
– Inability to use/move the joint.
– Loss of normal alignment of affected part of the body/joint.
How to confirm/diagnose Dislocations
The doctor will examine the affected joint and test for ranges of motion of the joint.
Appropriate tests/investigations will be done to confirm the above findings. Like ultrasound scan and x-ray.
Treatment for Dislocations
Depending on the nature/type of Dislocations, your doctor will work to take back the dislocated bone of the joint back to its normal position.
